The Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team has won the maiden edition of West African Football Union ( WAFU ) Nations Cup tournament, which was held in Abeokuta, Ogun state, of Nigeria. The Super Eagles beat the Teranga Lions of Senegal 2 – 0 in a hard fought final on Sunday to lift the cup in front of their home crowd. The win will go a long way to soften the anger and big disappointment the fans felt, when the team failed to qualify for the African Nations Championship ( CHAN ). |

The trust the world football governing body reposed on Africa to host three world cup tournaments – under 17, under 20 and the senior competitions has so far been a huge success. The first two has been completed satisfactorily, with Ghana Under – 20 winning the cup in Cairo Egypt and Nigeria Under – 17 winning the silver in Abuja, Nigeria.
The suspense and scintillating drama that accompanied the ending of this year world cup qualification for 2010 in South Africa is something that nobody will forget in a hurry in very long time. Not only in Africa but in the whole world. |

Ibrahim Kargbo, the Sierra Leonian midfielder of Willem 11, a Dutch eredivisie player has been demoted to the reserve second team of the club due to what the club management considered an act of indiscipline. The 27 years old footballer was demoted for the rest of the season because he failed to show up in the 4th of April home crucial league match against the Dutch giant team PSV Eindhoven. The club’s spokesman, Rufus Roel, told the BBC Sports that in addition to sanctioning the player, he was fined an estimated amount of money which he refused to disclose. |

Samson Siasia, the successful former Nigeria Under – 20 and Under – 23 coach has applied for the recently vacated seat of Zambia national football coach, according to the secretary of Zambia Football Association (ZFA), George Kasengele. He told the Daily Mail, that Siasia was among scores of foreign coaches who are aiming to replace Herve Renard, who resigned the post to take up the job of Angola national coach. |

Herve Renard has been appointed the new coach of the Angola’s national football team, popularly known as the parencas. He replaced their former Portuguese coach who took them to the just concluded African Cup of Nations, Jose Manuel. The Portuguese did not renew his contract after the Cup of Nations which was held in Angola for the first time. Renard, who led the Zambia national team to the 2010 African Cup of Nations, signed a two years contract just two days after he quit his job as Zambia coach. |

David Nascimento, of Portugal has been appointed the new national football coach of Mozambique’s Black Mambas. He will be replacing the Dutch coach, Mart Nooij, whose contract expired at the end of the African Cup of Nations, and was not renewed because the team came last in the qualifying phase of the tournament held in Angola. |
