Felipe de Jesús Calderón Hinojosa (b. August 18, 1962) is the President of Mexico. He assumed office on December 1, 2006, and was elected for one six-year term that will end in 2012 without the possibility of re-election. He is affiliated with the National Action Party (PAN), a mostly conservative organization with a tendency toward more liberal economic ideas. His official residence is Los Pinos.
Calderón was elected in the contested 2006 presidential elections. The results were controversial and contested by opponent Andrés Manuel López Obrador, validated on September 5, 2006 by the Federal Electoral Tribunal.
Prior to the presidency, Calderón actively participated in PAN politics. He has served as National President of the Party, Federal Deputy, and Secretary of Energy in Vicente Fox's cabinet.
