Boccaccio.
 
 Giovanni Boccaccio (16 June 1313 – 21 December 1375), was an Italian poet and author of a number of notable works including "On Famous Women", the "Decameron" (a collection of 100 novellasprobably begun in 1350 and finished in 1353. It is a medieval allegorical work best known for its bawdy tales of love, appearing in all its possibilities from the erotic to the tragic).

 

 
 
 

World-wide competition 2007

of the fourteenth art:

NOVEL and SHORT STORY

Francois Rabelais Miguel de Servantes
François Rabelais (1493-1553),French Renaissance writer, a Franciscan monk, humanist, and physician. Rabelais' works influenced a long line of writers from Cervantes, Swift, and Laurence Sterne to James Joyce and Céline.
The Spanish novelist, poet and playwright Miguel de Cervantes is best known for his novel Don Quixote de la Mancha, which is considered by many to be the first modern novel, one of the greatest works in Western literature, and the greatest in the Spanish language.

DEADLINE: 1st October, 2007
PRIZES: €250.00 (+ certificate, + edition in several languages, + international promotion).

THE REGULATION OF THE COMPETITION

 

ITEM 1:  The world-wide competition 2007 of the 14th art (NOVEL and SHORT STORY) is organised by the  World and Universal Academy foundation, in partnership with the WUACADEMIA company. It is open from 1st January, 2007 to 1st October, 2007. All authors, irrespective of age, sex, nationality or social situation …may participate.

ITEM 2:  To participate in the competition, send a novel or a short story (or several novels or short stories) that are unpublished.  Novels or short stories can only be accepted if it is written (or translated) in either English, French or Dutch. It will be even much better if candidates would translate their works into the above mentioned languages.

ITEM 3: The world-wide competition 2007 of the 14th art (NOVEL and SHORT STORY) rewards the best unpublished novels. The ten possible themes are the following:
- comedy;
- drama;
- detective fiction or crime fiction;
- spy novel and thriller;
- action and martial arts;
- adventure and travel writing;
- science-fiction and fantasy;
- romance novels (love stories);
- erotic;
- pornography.

ITEM 4: The world-wide competition 2007 of the 14th art (NOVEL and SHORT STORY) rewards the best unpublished short stories. The ten possible themes are the following:
- comedy;
- drama;
- detective fiction or crime fiction;
- spy and thriller;
- action and martial arts;
- adventure and travel writing;
- science-fiction and fantasy;
- romance short story (love stories);
- erotic;
- pornography.

ITEM 5A: The three best short stories from each theme will receive respectively:
- The golden Prize of the 14th art: short story (certificate, edition of the short story in an international antholog);
-The silver Prize of the 14th art: short story (certificate and edition of the short story in an international anthology);
-The Bronze Prize of the 14th art: short story ( certificate and edition of the short story in an international anthology). 

All the winning stories will be published after the contest.

ITEM 5B:  The best short story among the “gold Prizes" will receive the World-wide Grand Prize of the 14th art: short story (a certificate, international promotion and a gift of a value of at least €250).

ITEM 6A:  The three best novels from each theme will receive respectively:

- The golden Prize of the 14th art: novel (certificate and the possibility of the novel being published in several languages.);

-The silver Prize of the 14th art: novel (certificate and the possibility of the novel being published in several languages.);

-The Bronze Prize of the 14th art: novel (certificate and the possibility of the novel being published in several languages.).

 All the winning stories will be published after the contests.

ITEM 6B:  The best novel among the “Gold Prizes" will receive the World-wide Grand Prize of the 14th art: novel (a certificate, international promotion and a gift of a value of at least €250).

ITEM 7:  The concurrent novel (short story) must be sent through Internet (in format PDF) and in A4 format paper.

ITEM 8:  The novels (short stories) that are sent in will not be returned to their author. Once sent, the work will not be modified or completed by registering again. The author has to send his photography and his artistic curriculum vitae. Candidates are obliged  to send in their works either in Dutch, English or French in addition to their artistic curriculum vitae. The participants using a pseudonym must mention the two names (the true name and the pseudonym) on the participation card when paying for the entry fee,  otherwise they will be eliminated.

ITEM 9:  ENTRY FEE: The entry Fee is 5 Euros for each registered work before the closing date of 1st October, 2007.  It is possible to present several works. Every work will have separate inscription to it. The entry fee is non-refundable.

 ITEM 10: The competing works will be published on the site www.wuacademia.com from October 2, 2007. Netsurfers will then  be able to vote.  The netsurfers would vote and choose the best overall work. The candidates do not receive any rights of authors concerning the usage of their works by the World and Universal Academy notably in regards to the voting process on the net.

ITEM 11:  The results will be announced in December 2007.  The prize award will take place in the Netherlands on May 7, 2008 during the first world and universal Festival in Groningen.  The presence of the winners at the prize award day is highly needed.

ITEM 12: Candidates must submit only original work of arts. Any work that we receive from participants is assumed to be authentic work of the author. In the event of false claim the author will bare the consequence alone. We wish all the participants good luck.
